Plastic People of the Un-verse

Saturday, January 20th, 2007
A visit from true, historic aliens. Co-hosted by Ivan D’Evan who worked on the Lp release, this promises to be live music alien to our time, as they describe an era that helped form the one we live in now.

Ivan will have to translate and in turn I’ll translate his accent.
3 are the relatively "youngest" members, while 3 are the "oldest" PPU members.
Josef Janicek is one of the "very" original founders of PPU in 1968.
(Milan Hlavsa, principal composer, guitar player, singer and leading spirit is no longer with us,
having succumbed to cancer at the time of their previously arranged UK PREMIERE, also at QEH
EACH member of PPU, both the original set up and current PPU equipe is an accomplished musician,
playing with other excellent Prague bands, in quite a wide variety of styles.
This is in fact a nice logical extension to the post-liberation day of the whole Czech
Musical Underground creative ethos,
as it developed in the conditions of dire illegality in the late 60s, 70, & 80s.
(I've co-produced their 1st LP album with extensively illustrated documentary book on their story.)
I hope to cope. Because are they as wild as Ivan? Here is Ivan snaked by his hair carpet, at We Are All Going to Die taken, and survived, by me.

Walk a Mile in My Shoes

Emtrainer1.jpgcharlotteshoesdisplay.jpgEmCharshoes.jpgEmCharshoehorn3.jpg

In programme 12 of The Shoe Show I take my nieces Emily and Charlotte to try on Bedwyr William’s size 13 shoes. Fortyone pairs of his shoes and boots make up the installation Walk a Mile in My Shoes, for the Becks Futures show currently on display at the ICA. I then talk to the man himself about why he wanted to put his shoes on show and let people try them on…

Put Your Shoes on Daisy!

Tuesday, March 28th, 2006

On The Shoe Show this afternoon:

Put Your Shoes on Daisy ~ Children’s shoes

This week 3 year old Daisy Ashley takes her shoes off (and then puts them back on again!). Also Noreen Marshall, curator at The Museum of Childhood, Bethnal Green, shows me some of the shoes in the collection. The museum is currently closed until Autumn 2006 as it’s undergoing some re-development but I would recommend a visit to anyone, kids or no kids.

This afternoon from 4.45 - 5.00pm
