The Book of Gnats

Wednesday, March 8th, 2006

The literary world abounds with tales of lost books; These are manuscripts which have been mislaid and masterpieces which never made it to the press. Since they are gone forever you will never be able to read them; and because of their unavailability they are automatically the most interesting books you are never likely to read.Just search google for “lost manuscripts” for a very long lost of famous novelists and their missing works.

This week, the Resonance FM Podcasts site features the story of what is perhaps the most obscure and befuddling tale of lost text. Frank Key will be lecturing us on the origin, supression, recovery and destruction of Maude Glub’s only work of fiction, “The Book of Gnats”.

Scaledown Live Sessions

Friday, February 24th, 2006

This Friday’s Scaledown radio show (24th) will include not one but two short live sessions featuring Keith John Adams & Ninki V.

Keith John Adam’s bouncy and unpredicatable songs are joyous and witty. One time leader of the glorious Zuno Men, his “Sunshine Loft” album was a classic of uncluttered pop - recorded live on a single microphone, in a loft. With a new album, “Pip” and a new 6 track EP just out Keith has plenty of new stuff to play.

Ninki V plays electro-spiritual music on the theremin whilst accompanying herself with cheesy casio beats, synths, toy instruments and duets with a dancing skeleton. In the pipeline this year is an EP for Sock Records, a launderette tour and numerous collaborations with musicians in the London Underground scene.

Tune into Resonance from 4.30 to 5.30pm to hear it.

And if you like what you hear why not pop along to the King & Queen in London’s West End for the latest FREE Scaledown gig featuring: Lyndsey Cockwell, Karen Haines, Memphis 45s, Mixed Porter and Nathalie Nahai. It starts at 7.30pm, full details (including a handy map) can be found here

Black Friday - Mistress & Municipal Waste live sessions

Thursday, February 23rd, 2006

presented this week by SnakelifterRuth (aka Kev D’Ead) and Rej B*stardizer with a threatened appearance of CattleMauler

a double live music helping this week from 2 Earache records bands currently on tour together… Municipal Waste, a neo-thrash-core outfit from Richmond, Virginia - “fast, furious, and funny, each of Municipal Waste’s super-short songs is a memorable anthem to post-apocalyptic mutants, beer, thrash music, or all of the above”. if you loved DRI, Suicidal Tendencies and Nuclear Assault in the golden era of crossover in the 80s then these youngsters could be for you. thrashing is their business and business is good! www.facethewaste.com ; and the awesome Birmingham (England) hooligan-grindcore doom-merchants Mistress, makers of the recent violent, unpleasant & mentally ill album ‘In Disgust We Trust’ and strangely stars of ‘never mind the buzzcocks’ on boxing day (you’ll know if you saw it) - “a vile musical b*stard, a bilious, screaming, snot-faced sludge orphan with all the taste and decorum of a sexual encounter in Wormwood Scrubbs” www.myspace.com/mistress666

records as well from Decapitated, MyCrossToBare, One Man Army and the Undead Quartet and maybe even something from the new In Flames album - their hardest for a good while - other assorted goodies from Rej and ‘lifter as well

this Friday (Feb 24th) 10.30pm til midnight on Resonance104.4fm - it’s gonna shake the foundations.

Regolith Clear Spot this Thursday

Tuesday, February 21st, 2006

Any fans of Earth, Sunn 0))) and other such mighty minimal metal groups might want to tune into this Thursday’s Clear Spot, when Regolith will be live in session, representing the Black Friday metal show. Formed in 2005, London duo Regolith create music on a geological scale; music of mountains, shifting like glaciers, slow and relentless processes on grand timescales. From deep tectonic ambience to explosive volcanic noise, this is music of stone, designed to be as contemplative and beautiful - yet unpredictable and dangerous - as nature itself. Sonic sculpting that should be played on a loop from huge speakers atop the hills of the land.

Trust me people, its bloody marvellous - tune in to hear for yourselves!

Oh, and check out their site: www.regolith.co.uk - plenty of free MP3s to check :D
