Monday: The Black Box
Turn on the twatbox, turn off the anti-virals, swallow another Strepsil and pick my way through e-mail like a man at a post-funeral buffet. Fortunately, the Weaver has the horror of the admin account. Lucy Furlong (The Shoe Show) tell’s me that “winklepickers are back in for men”. Am I alone in feeling that an extended pointy foot is both medieval and wrong?

Lunch.

On our return Mr.Ken Campbell (Pigspurt Monday 3 - 3:30) is at the door, a black box under his arm. The box contains two ceramic figurines (though they could be a robust plaster of Paris judging by texture). Angel/devil/gargoyle-like artifacts with peculiar hooks in their mouths. Anti-satan totems or black magick playthings…? I don’t know, Ken doesn’t know and neither does the British Museum. I eat another Strepsil.

Tuesday: CAN’T THINK OF SMART TITLE
Son Of Dave is live in the studio at the behest of Joe Cushley (Balling The Jack, Tuesday at noon). All Dave requires to perform is a slice of pepperoni pizza and a a bottle of Peroni. Cushley gets the slice right but the beer is a litre bottle of San Miguel… Which is acceptable for a man on a bike. Dave is a good humoured fellow… his wisecracks are almost as good as his harmonica blowing.

Wednesday: Je Ne Parlez Pas Francais
5 Congolese musicians, their Belgian manager, Vincent Luttman and Vincent’s wife in the studio. French, Lingala and English polyglots abound, despite multi-lingual chaos things settled and we were left with something delightful…extended, cyclical, chiming rhumbas and bossas performed consumately. Two Strepsil.

Late Lunch With Out… Watson and sprog are in, Ben entertains his baby by repeatedly hiding and revealing his face with the aid of a semi-inflated carrier bag. Hooting Yard… I’m at the helm and Frank is in fine fettle; discussed - brevity and the absence of poetry in modern book titles and buttercup allergies. I get to do some acting and play an interviewer.. which essentially means I just read out a couple of questions in a voice not to dissimilar to my own. Another Strepsil.

Thursday: Again, No Smart Title
Feels like I’ve swallowed hot broken glass shards whilst being strangled by a weak girl in welding gloves. Some joker offers me a crisp. Four Strepsil. Traditional Music Hour Reg drops some Orkney folk dub plates…

Friday: Blank Friday
Six Strepsil, two Ibuprofen, eight cups of tea. Competent engineers? Like the Kent water supply, limited. Ruth and Snake Wrestler of Black Friday are gonna commit murder. Municipal Waste and Mistress are their guests…In a fit of pique Municipal Waste graffiti their name on the jamb of our front door just beneath another bit of scrawl that says `I
love cock’…

rare Monks footage on YouTube…

Saturday, February 25th, 2006

Check this out - ultra rare footage of the seminal Monks live on the German “Beat Club” TV show. “Monk Chant” is incendiary…

Oh and this one goes out to You Are Hear’s Jim Backhouse, who pressed the Monks CD into my hands in 1996 or thereabouts and demanded I listen. Thank god he did too.

Friday, February 24th, 2006

Max Tundra’s friend Silverlink plays the ringtone of Peg by Steely Dan through the letterbox at Resonance FM:

Bermuda Triangle is dead - long live (not the bermuda triangle) Again

Friday, February 24th, 2006

The Bermuda Triangle has morphed into (not the bermuda triangle) Again. The show’s musical leanings have shifted and there shall no longer be any speech… The shadowy force behind this fantastic radio programme now wishes only to be known as Club 2012…

Scaledown Live Sessions

Friday, February 24th, 2006

This Friday’s Scaledown radio show (24th) will include not one but two short live sessions featuring Keith John Adams & Ninki V.

Keith John Adam’s bouncy and unpredicatable songs are joyous and witty. One time leader of the glorious Zuno Men, his “Sunshine Loft” album was a classic of uncluttered pop - recorded live on a single microphone, in a loft. With a new album, “Pip” and a new 6 track EP just out Keith has plenty of new stuff to play.

Ninki V plays electro-spiritual music on the theremin whilst accompanying herself with cheesy casio beats, synths, toy instruments and duets with a dancing skeleton. In the pipeline this year is an EP for Sock Records, a launderette tour and numerous collaborations with musicians in the London Underground scene.

Tune into Resonance from 4.30 to 5.30pm to hear it.

www.theorchestrapit.com

And if you like what you hear why not pop along to the King & Queen in London’s West End for the latest FREE Scaledown gig featuring: Lyndsey Cockwell, Karen Haines, Memphis 45s, Mixed Porter and Nathalie Nahai. It starts at 7.30pm, full details (including a handy map) can be found here

Black Friday - Mistress & Municipal Waste live sessions

Thursday, February 23rd, 2006

presented this week by SnakelifterRuth (aka Kev D’Ead) and Rej B*stardizer with a threatened appearance of CattleMauler

a double live music helping this week from 2 Earache records bands currently on tour together… Municipal Waste, a neo-thrash-core outfit from Richmond, Virginia - “fast, furious, and funny, each of Municipal Waste’s super-short songs is a memorable anthem to post-apocalyptic mutants, beer, thrash music, or all of the above”. if you loved DRI, Suicidal Tendencies and Nuclear Assault in the golden era of crossover in the 80s then these youngsters could be for you. thrashing is their business and business is good! www.facethewaste.com ; and the awesome Birmingham (England) hooligan-grindcore doom-merchants Mistress, makers of the recent violent, unpleasant & mentally ill album ‘In Disgust We Trust’ and strangely stars of ‘never mind the buzzcocks’ on boxing day (you’ll know if you saw it) - “a vile musical b*stard, a bilious, screaming, snot-faced sludge orphan with all the taste and decorum of a sexual encounter in Wormwood Scrubbs” www.myspace.com/mistress666

records as well from Decapitated, MyCrossToBare, One Man Army and the Undead Quartet and maybe even something from the new In Flames album - their hardest for a good while - other assorted goodies from Rej and ‘lifter as well

this Friday (Feb 24th) 10.30pm til midnight on Resonance104.4fm - it’s gonna shake the foundations.
