Resonance at the Sony’s

Wednesday, March 29th, 2006

This was a circular today -

Dear all

Our fab-tastic pop picking chums at Resonance FM have scooped a short-listing for the Sony Awards - if I’m not wrong the only Community Rradio contenders in the whole list.

It’s for their ‘Good Drugs Guide’ show [which is itself rather good] in the Community Award.

Congratulations and cross fingers for the big day (May 8th)

Put Your Shoes on Daisy!

Tuesday, March 28th, 2006

On The Shoe Show this afternoon:

Put Your Shoes on Daisy ~ Children’s shoes

This week 3 year old Daisy Ashley takes her shoes off (and then puts them back on again!). Also Noreen Marshall, curator at The Museum of Childhood, Bethnal Green, shows me some of the shoes in the collection. The museum is currently closed until Autumn 2006 as it’s undergoing some re-development but I would recommend a visit to anyone, kids or no kids.

This afternoon from 4.45 - 5.00pm

Tinnitus sufferers: is this the cure?

Tuesday, March 28th, 2006

Tinnitool

As a sufferer of tinnitus for some 15+ years now, it goes without saying that I’ve always longed for some kind of effective treatment or even (though I never thought it possible) a cure.

So, imagine my interest when I saw this device: the tinnitool. Ostensibly it is a soft laser treatment that claims to encourage cell regeneration in the ear, leading to a reduction or possibly even a cure to tinnitus. At £200 its no cheap option, but as anyone afflicted will attest, that might be a small price to pay if it helps with what can only be described as a maddening condition.

Has anyone tried it? If so, post your thoughts as I’d certainly love to hear more about it… Fingers crossed though that finally some kind of relief has come for those of us with tinnitus.

Cool As Buck Owens… with Merle Haggard

BUCK OWENS R.I.P.

BONANZA was deeply distressed to hear of the passing away of Buck Owens at the weekend.

Buck was a true innovator of Country music being largely responsible for ‘The Bakersfield Sound’. He was a great entertainer and also hosted one of the single most successful TV shows of all time.

Openly critical of some of the more mainstream Country acts he wasn’t afraid to speak his mind:

“Assembly line robot music turn me off”

BONANZA will of course pay tribute to the great man in the coming weeks.

Oh and ‘Reason No.1 to own a Telecaster’ he was one of the first.

Gothic Nightmares on the Hello Goodbye show…

Tuesday, March 21st, 2006

This week’s deXter Bentley Hello Goodbye show (Saturday 25th March between noon and 1.30pm) is a Gothic special, featuring recordings commissioned by the Tate Britain to commemorate their current ‘Gothic Nightmares’ exhibition. A round table discussion at a recent ‘Late at the Tate’ event invited Goths to compare their experiences as members of one of Britain’s most enduring subcultures. Extracts from the discussion will be accompanied by music specially created for the occasion by James III and the Courtesan continuing their fruitful collaboration with Tautologist

At the same event dB also recorded members of the public discussing their nightmares and these will be peppered throughout the show, ranging from the bizarre to the terrifying to the downright disturbing.

We will also be playing a selection of Goth music selected by the legendary music journalist and Goth expert Mick Mercer, who will be phoning in to discuss the current scene.

On top of all this there will also be a live session from The House of McCarrick, who have performed with Siouxsie and the Banshees and whose work should provide a fitting accompaniment to the nightmarish themes of the show, having been described by audiences as both ‘erotically charged’ and ‘downright frightening’

NB* This show will be repeated on Wednesday 29th March at 11.30pm.

Monday, March 20th, 2006

For those who missed yesterday’s Observer Music Monthly supplement yesterday, Resonance was listed alongside iTunes, Bleep.com, MySpace and others in the “25 most amazing music sites on the web”. Read more here.

I would stand on my desk and yell “damn right too!”, but I shall restrain myself. For now.
