A wonderful gift in the post…

Wednesday, April 26th, 2006

Today we were thrilled to reiceve a CD in the post from a Japanese band called Bathtub Shitter, the lyrics were so spectacular I felt an urge to share them… The following exctract is taken from a song entitled “Everybody Has The Wet”

“Are you wet? Am I wet? Are we wet? Are they wet?

Everybody has the wet

When I am child, couldn’t crawl without nappy,

hid it in my skin, my pants are no stain now,

but it is not with my pretty lady.

Even if human grows up, make a variety of pain

Must sleep with rubber, bitch will be pregnancy.”

…magnificent

The bathtub shitters in action:

Please note: the album also features a track called Rest In Piss…

Podcasting: not so dead after all…

Tuesday, April 25th, 2006

Hmmm - according to this article it seems there are now more people podcasting via Feedburner alone than there are radio stations on the planet.

Interesting stuff certainly, but I am left wondering just how significant all the pro-Podcasting stats really are. After all, you can have millions of people podcasting, but how many people are listening, and how captive is the audience.

The future for Resonance perhaps? Hmmm… time will tell!

Hooting Yard Dreamworld

Monday, April 24th, 2006

I am not yet sure what texts will be read on this week’s edition of Hooting Yard On The Air, but one of them might be related to a very worrying dream I had last night.

Much of the detail has vanished in the vapour, but the climactic moment of the dream was this:

I was sitting shoulder-to-shoulder, in a matey kind of way, with David Blunkett, who turned to me and said: “This recording of the St Matthew Passion is as sublime as a Cadbury’s Creme Egg”.

Make of that what you will….

The Shoe Show…For the Love of Shoes

some weeks ago

Friday, April 21st, 2006

Monday: an extremely expensive painting is delivered, it is languishing in the hallway next to an old microwave. We are anti-hierarchical, certainly.

Tuesday:11:30 am Wilko Johnson and Norman Watt-Roy are in the studio. As a mark of respect we accidentally put Norman’s 1957 edition Fender Jazz bass in a bucket of water. 01:30pm Vic Reeves aka Jim Moir is at number 9 at the behest of Ben Thompson (The London Ear, Tuesday 2 -3 pm). Studio bound male comedy geeks (everyone) are drunk on the vicarious liquor of hero worship. John Lovett stops spouting factoids and entertains Reeves/Moir with a non-sequitur about how he “almost brought in a book (for Reeves/Moir) to sign but then forgot it…”

Wednesday: Peter Tatchell is in. Whilst making tea the work experience girl asks Tatchell if he is married…Later Alasdair Dickson is attacked by a squirrel.

Thursday: “This is a test frequency moving from left to right. This is a test frequency. This is a test frequency moving from left to right. This is a test frequency. This is a test frequency moving from left to right. This is a test frequency. This is a test frequency moving from left to right. This is a test frequency. This is a test frequency moving from left to right. This is a test frequency. This is a test frequency moving from left to right. This is a test frequency. This is a test frequency moving from left to right. This is a test frequency. This is a test frequency moving from left to right. This is a test frequency. This is a test frequency moving from left to right. This is a test frequency.”

Friday: “This is a test frequency. This is a test frequency moving from left to right.”

Monday: After major tidying and cleaning of the entire studio and convoluted overhaul of the technical infrastructure, everything is bust.

Tuesday: Everything is still bust.

Wednesday: We have new phones and they have caller ID! We are saved from crank persecution!

Thursday
: “Hello is that Resonance… Yeah, you played a tune a couple of months ago it was a sort of melodic thing…. I just wanted to find out what it was…” Inside I am weeping.

Friday: At work things are still bust but everything is working fine in the local public house. Mark P, Martin M and myself, observe a young man experiencing some sort of temporal-spatial-kinetic displacement. Mark P suggests recreational acid use as being the likely cause just as the kid starts to make yogic gestures with his arms. “He’s always like that,” remarks one of the kids associates. Later we find out that the psuedo-acid kid has built a Wilheim Reich `Cloud Buster’ in his garden.

Rainforest IV: Pestival performance preparation

Friday, April 21st, 2006

132060302_8eaac7e038_m.jpg

For just one of the swarm of Pestival events taking place between 27th May & 4th June at London’s Wetland Centre, a crack team of circuit-soldering folk (including Toby Arnott O.B.E.) have been gathering once a week in a dingy basement in London’s fashionable Denmark Street.

Amid the odour of burning wires and solder (which is uncannily similar to the smell of urine…I’m told) and using tools and materials which often resemble insects themselves, magnificently noisy instruments are being created for a production of David Tudor’s Rainforest IV.
This will be a large performance piece using junk objects as loudspeakers.

More photographic evidence can be viewed at Salim Fadhley’s photo page.
